According to Seth Laryea, VVU president, US$200,000 of the US$425,000 needed to complete the project came from institutions in the Columbia Union Conference, the Adventist church's administrative unit covering the mid-Atlantic United States. "Since the Columbia Union is the umbrella body for the donor organizations, we thought it appropriate to name the facility after the Union," Laryea said.
In attendance were the Minister for Education, Professor Dominic Fobih, the Deputy Minister for Health, Dr Gladys Norley Ashiettey and the officers of the Columbia Union Conference, among others.
